Week 09 - Art Style Guides (Understanding Story)

Theme World: Metroid

My contributions were to hours 0-3 of the Hero's Journey timeline.

0 - Status Quo: Previously, Samus (Hero) was infected by an X parasite, known to take over the body of those it infects and to replicate their DNA afterwards. In order to save Samus, Metroid DNA was combined with her DNA as the Metroid is a natural predator to the X parasite but was previously eradicated for being a danger to the universe. After destroying the last known planet that was completely infected by the X parasite, Samus is now waiting for her next mission while learning just how exactly the Metroid DNA has changed her. Metroids are known for being able to absorb the energy and ability of the creatures they prey on, and now Samus seems to have that same ability.

1 - Call to Adventure: However, a video from an unknown source is transmitted to the Galactic Federation showing an X parasite being contained by a Chozo tribe (Herald). As the X parasite can infect all known living creatures, the mission is given to Samus as the only one known to be immune to the x parasite. She sets out to eradicate the X parasite.

2 - Assistance: Adam, the AI of Samus’ ship (Mentor), helps guide Samus to the planet. After connecting with the facility’s network, Adam establishes the best route through the facility to the most likely known location.

3 - Departure: While traveling through the facility, Samus encounter a Chozo Warrior (Threshold Guardian) that has been infected by the X parasite. She now knows that the facility has become overrun by the X parasite and that things are likely to be far more dangerous than originally expected.
